A small firefly with a dim light discovers that being different makes him perfect for a special job - guiding baby animals safely through the forest at night.
Being different isn't bad - it just means you have a special gift that the world needs.
In the forests of Kenya, there lived a tiny firefly named Tatu. Tatu means "three" in Swahili, because he was the third firefly born in his family.
Tatu had a big problem. His light was very dim. While his brothers and sisters could shine brightly in the dark, Tatu's light was so small you could barely see it.
"I'm too different," Tatu said sadly. "No one will ever notice me."
One night, the forest animals were having a celebration. Everyone was singing and dancing. Suddenly, the moon hid behind thick clouds. The forest became completely dark!
"Help!" cried the animals. "We can't see anything!"
The big fireflies tried to help, but their bright lights were too harsh. The animals covered their eyes. "Too bright!" they shouted.
Tatu flew forward nervously. His tiny light glowed softly in the darkness. It wasn't too bright, and it wasn't too dim. It was just right!
"Follow Tatu's gentle light!" called Tembo the elephant.
One by one, the animals followed Tatu's soft, warm glow. He led them safely back to their homes. The baby animals especially loved Tatu's light because it didn't hurt their eyes.
"Tatu, you are special," said Mama Giraffe. "Your gentle light is perfect for guiding little ones."
From that night on, Tatu became the official guide for all the baby animals in the forest. He learned that being different isn't bad - it just means you have a special gift that the world needs.
And whenever baby animals were scared of the dark, Tatu would glow beside them, showing them there's nothing to fear when you have a friend who lights your way.
